Stage 2 — Specification
⏱️ At a Glance DeX turns your Business Request into three documents here: the BRD (business case), the SRD (architecture), and the FSD (functional behavior). This is the same generation step whether you triggered it via One-Click Synthesize in Stage 1 or individually here.
Purpose: Synthesize structured requirement documents that translate business needs into technical and functional terms — ensuring alignment between stakeholders and delivery teams before any code is written.
📍 Pipeline position: Stage 2 of 9 — see the full pipeline map.
The Three Documents
| Document | Full Name | Audience | Answers |
|---|---|---|---|
| BRD | Business Requirement Document | Stakeholders, Product Owners | Why are we building this, and what does success look like? |
| SRD | Software Requirement Document | Technical Leads, Architects | How is this built — architecture, data, infrastructure? |
| FSD | Functional Specification Document | Developers, QA Engineers | Exactly what must each feature do, screen by screen? |
Generating the Documents
- From Stage 1 — Business Request, click "One-Click Synthesize (All 3 Docs)" to generate all three together, or open Stage 2 — Specification directly and generate each one individually.
- Watch for the "Synthesizing Project" status — this confirms DeX is generating your documents.
- Once generation is complete, the BRD, SRD, and FSD are available for review.
- For each document, you can:
- Preview — Read the generated content
- Edit — Refine any section directly in the editor
- Download — Export the document (PDF or DOCX)
- Regenerate — Re-run AI generation after refining your Stage 1 inputs
📝 If a document doesn't fully reflect your requirements, use Edit to adjust specific sections, or update your Stage 1 inputs and Regenerate for a fresh pass.

📦 The Sample Documents folder is the best place to see what a complete, production-depth BRD/SRD/FSD trio looks like end-to-end, with nothing trimmed for documentation purposes.
